Our war weary world needs to know that new life can rise from total destruction. The shattered homes, villages, and cities that have dominated our screens for the past three years will not dominate forever.

The downside of our connected world is that we’re also connected with a world in chaos with war, famine, and sorrow on sorrow. Little wonder we sometimes lie awake at night praying for peace.

We are forever indebted. We honour our veterans. We will never forget.

One of our champions has come close to death twice in the last three years, all the while suffering a tumour on his spine. He doesn’t complain. I’ve never heard him demand anything. He just trusts and obeys the Lord.

There is sorrow on every hand. Rather than “curse the darkness” WOW continues to faithfully “light a candle”.

The “pit” may threaten to consume but the “steadfast love” of the Lord rescues and redeems.

Like me, you may be in need of a word from the Lord.

When someone with almost evangelical fervour tries to convince me of a current conspiracy I ask, “So what are you afraid of?”

And when “faithful” is applied to us it means we continually “show up for work” and stick to it regardless of how tired, bored, or discouraged we may be that day.

As a committed Christian, Tolkien was fully aware of the historic resurrection of Christ and the promise it has for all of us mortals.

“God or luck” polarity is reflective of our culture. At the risk of sounding like a theologian, I must say there’s a huge gap between God and luck.
